Robin's Dream

This Artist Limited Edition doll of 20 was a result of my HSN series that was limited to 300 dolls. I purchased an extra 20 of the undressed and unwigged resin dolls and dressed them myself. These dolls are personally signed by me and numbered.

It was important for me to make Robin very safe and non-threatening. She had to be sweet, full of life, and love, so that collectors would be drawn to her. The metal Click to view larger image. Canadian crutches are ground on the surface so that they will not be shiny and noticed first. Her dress fabric is done in a happy print so that the eye is drawn to the doll, not the crutches. Her eyes match the dress color, so you are drawn up to her face. I made her shoes 'non-medical' looking so that she is more non-threatening. But it is her story that truly teaches wonderful lessons.

ROBIN'S DREAM

Hello, my name is Robin. Though I have crutches and leg braces, I am as normal as any child in every other way. I love playing outside, going to parties, and being with happy friends, just like the other kids. Life is good, and hopeful, and I am full of dreams.

My mother named me Robin, after the bird. And maybe that is the reason I love birds. Birds are so free. My braces and crutches make it harder for me to move about. When I watch birds fly, I can pretend to be free like them. Of course, robins are my favorite to watch. My favorite time of year is springtime. That's when the robins come back to my yard. They make me happy. I know that the world is full of new life and hope when they return after the long winter.

There are times in my life, I think, that are sort of like small winters; times when my body aches, or when I am teased, and not included in the activities of other children. Then I feel sad, left out, and lonely: these are small winters in my life. Fortunately, most people are usually nice. When I am treated like the other children and my differences are not the focus of attention, I am filled with hope, warmth, and security. That is very much the same sort of feeling I have when spring arrives and robins come back to my yard.

I hope my smiling face will give you the feeling of springtime. When you are feeling lonely or unhappy and your life seems like a little winter, just look into my eyes. I will be smiling up at you warmly. I will be your eternal springtime full of hope, love, and limitless possibilities. And, oh yes, I will also wish you the freedom of robins ... I can, you know, because Robin is my name.

Your new friend,
                                                        Robin
